Most people cares about safely storing and transporting power—but what they really want to know is: how much relief will that stored energy provide when summer blackouts strike?” I said
Powering Survival: Uncovering India’s True Energy Imperative
Research
When Gogoro entered India’s market, initial efforts focused on local manufacturing and a partnership with Zipp. Yet My research—citing the Council on Energy, Environment and Water’s finding that summer blackouts and heat waves cause some 150,000 excess deaths annually—revealed a deeper need. In 2024 alone, power failures amid extreme heat led to over 219 fatalities and 40,000 heat-stroke cases, leaving millions without cooling in 50°C conditions. Recognizing that energy storage is a lifeline—not a luxury—we shifted Gogoro’s narrative from mobility features to community protection, positioning robust storage solutions as essential to saving lives during India’s recurring crises.
Power Protocol:
Engineering Cultural Resonance
Strategy and Design
We approached our India press launch by first understanding each audience—from government and cultural leaders to sustainability investors in the US, Europe, Japan, and Taiwan. We defined our challenge: make energy storage both a lifesaver and a cultural story. In workshops, we crafted and tested narrative drafts that blended local traditions with everyday resilience. By iterating on these prototypes, we secured leadership buy-in and laid the groundwork for a successful, multi-stage fundraising campaign that highlights Gogoro’s role in community and environmental stewardship.

Outcome
Gogoro is proud to partner with the Government of Maharashtra on its “Super Plan” to advance sustainable mobility. Together, we will locally produce electric scooters and battery-swap stations with government funding, ensuring access to reliable transportation and protecting community livelihoods. Over the next eight years, this collaboration will secure more than $1.5 billion in investment to accelerate India’s electric mobility transformation.
